The HMong Batik Curriculum Project

Project Description:

The Hmong Museum and Ka Oskar Ly are launching the HMong Batik Curriculum Project. It is a ten month paid program to train under teaching artist facilitator Ka Oskar Ly in the development of the first facilitating and teaching curriculum on HMong Batik with Hmong Museum. Ly will create a “train the facilitator” curriculum, empowering apprentices to become skilled teaching artists as facilitators that preserve this vital folk art for future generations. Apprentices will work with Ly to develop, document, and pilot the curriculum for Hmong Batik workshops. Apprentices will gain experience working with HMong batik craft traditions with Hmong Museum and community members (youth to elders). Over the ten months, the Apprentices will dedicate themselves to learning and gaining hands-on experience with creating and teaching as facilitators of HMong batik that will preserve traditional Hmong Batik.
